Eligibility and Requirements

Nursing (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) and Physicians Assistants are required to purchase this insurance plan and cost of insurance is added to the student’s tuition fees unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished through the waiver.

Full-time RMC undergraduate students (12 or more credit hours) and graduate students (6 or more credit hours) are eligible to purchase the insurance on a voluntary basis.

Students must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days after the date for which coverage is purchased. Home study, correspondence and online courses do not fulfill the eligibility requirements that the student actively attend classes. Begin the enrollment process by following the instructions below.

Cost

The cost of insurance for 2026-2027 is pending review and approval by the Virginia Bureau of Insurance. This should be updated in the coming months prior to the plan start date. The proposed cost of insurance for this year is:

Student – Undergraduate: $3,266*

Student – Graduate: $5,171*

*Disclaimer – these rates are not finalized and are subject to change based on the Virginia Bureau of Insurance review. If you are enrolled into the annual plan, the cost of insurance will be paid through your student account.
Enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan

Students must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days after the date for which coverage was purchased. If a student leaves the school prior to this time, coverage will be canceled. Home study, correspondence and online courses do not fulfill the eligibility requirements that the student actively attend classes.

We highly recommend any student interested in purchasing the insurance to proactively enroll in the plan. This will ensure you receive your insurance ID card in a timely manner.

Please note that enrollment will not be available until the plan and rates are approved by the Virginia Bureau of Insurance.

Waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan

Students are required to complete the online waiver process each academic year.

Any student failing to complete the online waiver will be enrolled in the student health insurance plan and your student account will be charged for the cost of the insurance. Once enrolled, the plan cannot be cancelled and no refunds are available.

If you choose to waive the student health plan, your primary insurance plan must offer coverage in the school’s surrounding area for all emergency and routine care. Out of state HMO and Medicaid coverage may only cover you for emergency care. You would need to return to your home state for any routine care.

If you waive the student health insurance plan, you will only be able to enroll in the plan if you experience a Qualifying Life Event.

Individual health insurance options

The school requires students to maintain health insurance to help ensure there is no disruption of their education due to the financial impact of an unexpected illness or injury. Students are not required to purchase the student health insurance plan sponsored by the school and can purchase coverage meeting all of the standards of the Affordable Care Act.

The school has secured the services of UROne Benefits to assist students with a search of alternative health insurance plans. You can reach UROne Benefits at 800-722-7331.
Will your health insurance protect you while you are away at college?

The insurance plans offered either through your parents’ employer or in the Marketplace have a variety of options. Some plans will limit coverage and services if the individual is seeking routine medical services outside of their home state.

Most, if not all plans will offer coverage in the event of an emergency but would require the insured to return to their home state for routine medical care. This can result in significant out-of-pocket expenses or delays in receiving proper care.

Please check with your insurance company to see if they have any options to extend coverage to the school’s surrounding area. Most of the national insurance companies will expand coverage outside of the home state at no cost to the insured. Some will reference this as a Guest Membership or Away from Home Care.

The implementation of this type of plan can properly protect you and ensure there is access for all medical care while you are away from home. The process can take up to 60 days to complete, so please contact your insurance company in advance of arriving on campus.
Qualifying Life Event

Eligible students who lose their current coverage through no fault of their own may enroll in the school plan as a Qualifying Life Event. You must enroll within 30 days after losing coverage in order to be eligible.

Telemedicine Services

HealthiestYou – Free Telehealth for Students enrolled in the UHCSR Student Health Insurance Plan:

As a student covered under the UHCSR insurance plan, you have access to HealthiestYou, a free telehealth service powered by Teladoc Health. Through the HealthiestYou app or website, you can talk to a licensed doctor 24/7 by phone or video for general medical needs such as the flu, infections, and other common conditions. You can also connect with a mental health provider – including therapists and psychiatrists – by phone or video, seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. All visits are at no cost to you. To get started, visit telehealth4students.com or download the HealthiestYou app. You will need your first and last name, date of birth, and your student ID number to register. You can also access the registration link through your My Account portal by clicking on the telehealth support card under Additional Benefits. If you need help or prefer to connect by phone, call 855-870-5858.
Prescriptions

The student health insurance plan offers a prescription drug benefit. Follow the instructions below to access information on which medications are covered, cost for each prescription, and if any prior approval is required.

Students should also use discount Prescription drug sites, which may result in lower out-of-pocket expenses for your medication. Two popular sites for discounted prescription medications are through Amazon and Good Rx. We provided links below for your convenience.

Dental Insurance

Voluntary Dental

Dental coverage can make it easier to stay on top of your oral health while you’re in school. Students with coverage are more likely to get regular check-ups, which can help catch issues early and prevent bigger problems later. Taking care of your teeth and gums also supports your overall health. Many plans help reduce out-of-pocket costs by covering routine exams, cleanings, and X-rays. And you cannot be charged more than Delta Dental’s set fees when you visit an in-network dentist. Having coverage can also help you feel more prepared if something unexpected comes up.

Voluntary Vision

Vision coverage can help make it easier to take care of your eye health while you’re in school. Regular eye exams can catch changes in your vision early, and many plans help lower the cost of exams, glasses, and contacts. With a large network of providers, it’s usually easy to find a doctor nearby, and you can choose eyewear that fits your style and budget. Students can enroll in a vision plan at any time during the year, with payment completed online.

Sports Insurance

All students-athletes are required to have personal health insurance in order to participate in intercollegiate athletics. This insurance may be through a parent’s plan or purchased through Student Health Services.

Collegiate Accident Claim Form

Randolph-Macon College provides supplemental insurance for those athletic injuries that occur while participating in Randolph-Macon sponsored intercollegiate athletics. Once the athlete has met all of their deductibles and co-payments any outstanding charges that the primary insurance company will not pay reverts back to A-G Specialty Insurance. In order for A-G to process these claims, they require a billing statement, itemized bill, and an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) from the primary insurance company stating non-payment. The athletic training staff will file and submit claims, but it is the responsibility of the student-athlete to submit any and all necessary billing information directly to A-G Specialty Insurance.

A-G Specialty – Intercollegiate Sports Insurance Claim Information

Randolph-Macon College student-athletes are insured under an Intercollegiate Sports insurance program. This policy is intended to pay for any excess medical expenses not paid by the student-athletes primary health insurance plan.

The Intercollegiate Sports insurance policy is an excess insurance plan. This means if an injury occurs requiring medical attention claims should be submitted to the student’s primary insurance company. The Intercollegiate Sports insurance policy will only pay for any excess expenses not reimbursed by the primary insurance company and meeting the guidelines of this policy.

The student is responsible for submitting all medical bills and Explanation of Benefit statements to the claim administrator. Randolph-Macon does not assist in this process. You can ask for assistance on any Intercollegiate Sports insurance claim by emailing [email protected].

This policy will pay for medical expenses for up to two years from the date of your injury.

Claim Filing Instructions

Detailed medical bills associated with the injury must be submitted to your primary health insurance company. Any medical expense balance not paid by the student’s primary insurance will be reviewed by the A-G Specialty Insurance for the Intercollegiate Sports insurance.

Claims to the Intercollegiate Sports insurance policy must be submitted with a copy of all itemized medical bills and the Explanation of Benefit (EOB) statements from the student’s primary insurance company.

Bills must be submitted within 90 days from the date of the service provided to the student.

Important Claim Procedures

A-G Specialty Insurance should be notified of any injury within 30 days of the accident. Contact your Athletic Trainer for initial assistance with submitting the claim.

Any invoice for medical services should be submitted within 90 days from the date the service was provided. The student is responsible to respond to any request from A-G Specialty Insurance or your primary insurance carrier for additional information. Ignoring requests for information to process your claim may result in the medical provider submitting your bill to a collection agency. This could lead to personal credit problems in the future.

Students Insured by Medicaid or Tricare

If you are insured by Medicaid or Tricare the student accident plan becomes the primary insurance for claims associated with this policy. The student accident insurance claim should be filed immediately with A-G Specialty Insurance. Claims should be submitted with all detailed medical bills related to the injury.
